William Hamilton served in the Patriot Forces during the Revolutionary War. His wife received a pension for his services. The gravemarker should read 1st Lieut 1st Co. YORK COUNTY PA MILITIA. William Hamilton also served in the 3rd PA Continental Line and Capt. Isaac Corren's Company of Artillery. William Hamilton had many children and many descendants are/were members of the SAR & DAR. He and his father John Hamilton are mentioned in the York. Adams, and Washington County histories.

William Hamilton was originally buried elsewhere but was reburied at Evergreen Cemetery a long time ago. He has many descendants who are/were members of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Sons of the American Revolution. The submitter is a descendant and SAR member.
