Jeannet Basly, called Jean, was born at Chassenon, France. In June 1904, he came to the United States from Rochefort, France with his spouse, Adelaide Mechain (1871-1949). They were married at Rochefort on June 28, 1904.
Jean and Adelaide left Rochefort on the La Savoie and arrived at New York and then settled at Ocean Springs, Mississippi. Here he made his livelihood as a carpenter and contractor. Two sons, Edward Georges Basly (1908-1995) m. Matilda Webb (1906-1992) and Raymond Basly (1913-1988) m. Thelma Pittmann (1912-1989), were born at Ocean Springs.
