On March 2, 1907, Maxine Giese was born in Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Nellie (Earl) Smith. She graduated from high school there in 1925 and was married to Melvin Giese on September 6, 1935. The couple continued to live in Austin until 1946 when they moved to Hardwick. They also made their home in Luverne, Jasper, Minnetonka, Gaylord and Redwood Falls before moving to Alexandria in the mid 1970s. Maxine was active with her family of three children and in her church and community. She enjoyed baking, bowling, and working with ceramics. Maxine was recognized for 2,000 hours of volunteer service at the Douglas County Hospital.
She died at the Knute Nelson Home on March 1, 1993, one day before her 86th birthday. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Irene.
Surviving her are her husband Melvin Giese of Alexandria; son Bill of Sioux Falls, SD; two daughters: Janet and husband Marvin Hey of Marshall; Marilyn and husband Chuck Hoffman of Pine City; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at First Lutheran Church of Alexandria on March 3, 1993 with Rev. Ron Otterson and Rev. Keith Lentz officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Mark Hoffman, Trish Olson, Laurie Auch, Jayne Hey, Pam Breuhl, Tom Hey and Jim Hey. Interment was in Kinkead Cemetery. Arrangements with Anderson Funeral Home.
