Earl Eugene West, 88, of Platte City, MO passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2015. A Graveside service with Military Honors will be held 1:00pm, Sunday, June 7, 2015 at De Soto Cemetery, De Soto, KS. The family suggests contributions be given to: VFW Post #55. Earl was born June 7, 1926 in Lawrence, KS to William Earl West and Parthena Susan Fitzpatrick. He was raised in the Lawrence KS area and was a 1944 graduate of the De Soto High School. He has lived in Eudora KS, Carrolton MO, Wakenda MO, Greater Kansas City area and for the last 34 years in Weston MO. Earl joined the U.S. Navy, and served in WWII on a Mine Sweeper in the Pacific Theatre. Earl married Alice L. Johnston on July 15, 1976 in Savannah MO. He was of the Episcopalian faith and Member of the Church of The Redeemer in Platte Woods MO. Earl was a member of The VFW Post #55 in Platte City MO. He also loved to dance and spend time with his children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He was a huge sports fan and loved working in his yard. Earl was preceded in death by his parents and step daughter Teresa Thompson. Earl is survived by his wife Alice of the home, sons Brad West (Lisa) of Plano TX, Scott West (Kathy) of Platte City, MO, Stepson Dick Johnston (Stella) of Henderson NV, Daughter Terri Stephens of Stillwater MN, grandchildren Kristin, Ashley, Kaitlyn and Kevin West, Sydni Dittmer, Josh Stephens, Chip Thompson, Tammy Hornbeck, Melissa Dennis, Anna Wheeler, Shelly Rogers and Jimmy Aquilino. Great Grandchildren Alicen and Caleb Hornbeck, Katie Taylor, Dylan and Jacob Dennis, Ivan and Alexandra Dittmer. He is also survived by his first wife Margaret Dierolf.
