ASHTABULA — Robert E. Viers, age 83, of Ridgewood Ave., died Sunday, May 17, 2015, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.

Born July 15, 1931, in Ronceverte, W.Va., he was the son of Albert and Katie (Thomas) Viers. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict. He married Florence Goodge on Nov. 16, 1951.


He worked for 33 years for the True Temper Corporation in Saybrook, Ohio; he worked as maintenance supervisor at the YMCA for 5 years and also worked for Community Action with “Meals on Wheels” for 13 years. He received his Associate Degree in Theology from Liberty University.

He was a active member of The First Baptist Church of Ashtabula, where he was a Deacon, church Trustee, Sunday School teacher, worked with the youth and was on the Camp Koinonia Board. He had been a 4-H leader and also a member of the Lindenville Grange and VFW Post #943. He enjoyed carpentry and masonry work.

Surviving him are his wife; a son, Dennis (Pamela) Viers of Avon, Ohio; two daughters, Nila (Don) Brass of Plymouth Township and Cynthia Kubitz of Ashtabula; four grandchildren, Melissa, Robert, Delylah and Katherine; and five great-grandchildren, Sofia, Liam, Elliot, Gavin and Aubrey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arthur Viers; two sisters, Eula Moses and Violet Viers; and by a dear friend and brother, Johnny Chipps Jr.

Funeral Service will be 1 p.m., Thursday, May 21st, at The Ashtabula First Baptist Church, 4353 Park Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Doug Wright officiating. Burial will be in Hayes Cemetery in Wayne Township.

Calling Hours will be Wednesday, May 20th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ashtabula Home of FLEMING & BILLMAN FUNERAL DIRECTORS AND CREMATORY, INC., 526 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Ashtabula First Baptist Church, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
