Chester Herbert Christie, 86, died June 3, 2010 at the Maine General Medical Center in Waterville. He was born on April 2, 1924 in Milltown, New Brunswick, the son of Chester and Lottie (Libby) Christie. Chester attended school until the 10th grade, when he dropped out to help support his parents and siblings. He served his country during World War II in the Navy aboard the USS Clay. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He was a self-employed carpenter most of his life. He also worked part-time for Johnson's True Value, measuring and installing windows. He was a member of Gateway Cathedral in St. Stephen and later attended the St. Croix Valley Assembly of God in Calais. He was predeceased by his brother Arnold and three sisters, Ruth, Irene and Dot. He is survived by his wife of more than 63 years, Doris; his daughter, Sandra Smith and husband, Thomas, of Alexander; two sisters, Doris Trafton and Betty Laking, and two grandchildren, Kevin Smith of South Carolina, and Tiffany Hartley of Georgia; four great granddaughters, Victoria and Brooke Smith and Emily and Anslee Hartley; several nieces and nephews. A committal service will be held on June 11, 2010, at 11am in the Calais Cemetery, with Pastor Marvin Flowerdew officiating.
