Eya Nikolaivna Fechin was born in Kazan, Russia. She was the only child of the famed Russian Taos Artist, Nicolai Fechin and wife, Alexandra Fechin nee Belkovitch. She and her parents immigrated to the United States settling first in New York in 1923. Her mother, Alexandra divorced her father, Nicolai Fechin in 1933. He moved to Santa Monica, California after the divorce. Eya lived with her father most of the time. Eya had one child, Nicaela "Nikki" Donner nee Branham who married Mark Donner. The two had two daughters: Kayla and Rachel Donner. Her wedding announcement to Dane Rudyhar was in the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday, July 3, 1945, page 7 read: "Taos Girl Weds Author at Boulder"
