Judith "Judy" Marie Mercer, 66, of Woodville, Ohio passed away Friday, September 19, 2008 in Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo. Judy was born in Circleville, Ohio to Clayburn and Nancy (Ogan) Happeny. She married Jerry D. Mercer in Woodville on January 26, 1963, and he survives.
Judy was an insurance and billing specialist for Pills & Packages Pharmacy in Gibsonburg for many years. She was also a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. Judy also served as a Village of Woodville councilwoman during the 1990's and attended Solomon Lutheran Church in Woodville. Judy enjoyed cooking and was an avid mushroom hunter and reader. She loved listening to music, and during the third week of October she and Jerry would always attend the Circleville Pumpkin Show. She attended the show every year for more than 60 years, missing only the 2007 celebration.
Judy is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jerry, sons, Phillip (Melissa) Mercer of Delaware, OH, Sean (Jennifer) Mercer of Toledo, OH, daughter Kathy (Lance) Sowell of Toledo, 5 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, sisters, Mary (Ronnie) Beam of Gibsonburg, OH, Beverly "Betts" (Don) Peiffer of Genoa, OH, brothers, Paul (Karen) Happeny, Elmore, OH, and Bob Happeny of Philadelphia, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Doris Brossia.
Judy's family would like to invite all of her relatives and friends to a celebration of her life that will be held from 2-4 pm, on Sunday, September 28, 2008 in the fellowship hall of Solomon Lutheran Church, 305 W. Main Street, Woodville, OH. Her family would like anyone who has a story, written or oral, to share with the family during this special time. Following the gathering, the family will host a meal in Judy's honor, also in the fellowship hall. On Sunday, November 9, 2008 at 3 pm Judy's family will honor her with a memorial service in the Robinson-Walker Funeral home, 501 West St. Genoa, OH. Rev. William J. Duty and Rev. Carl Ribbic will officiate. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Judy's name be directed to the American Cancer Society, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, or the Sandusky County Humane Society.
