The chronicle composed by Pietro Cantinelli, narrating the life of Nevolone, said to be of Faenza origins, narrates that he was a layman and a cobbler by profession, such that as of 1331 he was held as the as patron of the shoemakers of Rimini. A "brother of penance" of the Franciscan Third Order, he led an austere life, dedicated to prayer and is said that he went eleven times as a pilgrim to Santiago de Compostella. His reputation for holiness was such known that upon his death in 1280, the citizens and clergy of Faenza brought his body in procession to the cathedral where it remains preserved. Pope Pius VII confirmed his cult in 1817.
