Charles M. “Charlie” Lyon 81 of Peabody and Delray Beach, FL, husband of Beverly J. (Thompson) Brownfield-Lyon, died Sunday, May 10, 2015 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Lake Worth, FL.

Charlie was born in Lynn on March 21, 1934 son of Charles M. and Anna Mae (Lynch) Lyon. He was raised in Lynn and graduated from St. Mary High School in 1951. In 1952, he enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served as an YNT3 aboard the USS Navarro APA215 during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on August 8, 1954. Charlie then pursued his business degree from Boston College and his Master’s from Suffolk University.

Charlie was employed for 30 years as an auditor with the United States Department of Defense until his retirement on December 30, 1994. Charlie was a great supporter of the West Point Military Academy and St. John Preparatory School in Danvers where his son Toby was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame. As hobbies, he enjoyed his flower garden and keeping the grounds around his home pristine, sports, and traveling worldwide. He will also be remembered as a regular at the Wardhurst Restaurant in Peabody and as a wonderful neighbor.

In addition to his wife Beverly, Charlie is survived by 2 sisters, Dorothy Allard of Lynn and Louise Riddell of Swampscott; 4 step children and their spouses, Michael and Lori Brownfield of AZ, Kristin and Paul Hamill of IN, Cassandra Brownfield Harrington and Dennis Harrington of KS, and Scott and Emily Brownfield of TX; 8 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Matthew, Michael, Jacob, McKenzie, Brady, Daniel and Patrick; 2 nephews, Charles Riddell and his wife Linda of Danvers, Philip Archung of Peabody and many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his 1st wife Beverly Ann (Pierce) Lyon in 2005, his son Charles M. “Toby” Lyon in 1981, and his siblings Gladys Archung and George Lyon.

Charlie’s family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Monday, May 18th at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Ann Church, 140 Lynn St., Peabody. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Charlie’s memory to St. John’s Preparatory School, C/O Brother Linus Memorial Fund, 72 Spring St., Danvers, MA 01923 or to West Point Army Athletics and Hockey Team in memory of his son Toby Lyon. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
