Douglas Lee Hartman, a lifelong resident of Harper, Kansas, passed away Thursday, May 14 , 2015, at the Harper Hospital after a brief illness. Doug was born November 19, 1930, to Anna Kathryn (Ruhsert) Hartman and Leslie William Hartman. He grew up in the rural community and attended school in Harper, graduating with the Class of 1949.

Doug and Peggy A. Haskin were married August 11, 1949, in Harper, Kansas. They had two sons, Rodney Lee Hartman and Paul Douglas Hartman. Doug and Peggy farmed North of Harper and raised livestock. He loved farming and raised wheat throughout his life on the farm. He also had a career at Cessna Aircraft serving as a foreman in the paint department. Retirement from Cessna in 1995 allowed him to continue his farming full time. While farming, he enjoyed the friendships he developed while working at Green Line.

He loved keeping up with the events of his family and felt great pride in each of their successful ventures. He found comfort in his family and pleasure in each of their visits. Doug and Peg enjoyed hosting endless family meals and get-togethers. To this day everyone plans to ‘go to the farm’ for a holiday meal. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have all grown up playing and exploring at the farm. Many memories and traditions have been made there.

During his life he was a member of the Kansas National Guard, the Midian Shrine Temple, and 50 year member of the Harper Masonic Lodge.

Doug was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy in 1998. They had celebrated 48 years of marriage together. Also preceding him in death were his father, Leslie William Hartman; his mother, Anna Kathryn (Ruhsert) Hartman; an infant brother, Leslie William Jr.; and brother Marvin.

Those left to carry on his memory are: son Rod and wife Connie of Shell Knob, MO; son Paul and wife Deb of Harper, KS; sister Elaine and husband Walt Bryant of Topeka, KS; grandson Chris and wife Jeni of Ottawa, KS; grandson Matt of Harper, KS; granddaughter Kristy and husband Tony Baker of Wichita, KS; grandson Aaron and wife Danielle of Garden City, KS. Great-grandchildren: Logan and Caleb Hartman, Devin and Jayla Baker, Davontae Harris, Kierstyn and Haegen Hartman, Alex and Bayley Roberts, and Caeden Spenser and a great- great- granddaughter Daelyn Roberts. Also surviving Doug are nephew Bob Mitchell , many cousins, and friends. He will be missed.
