Majorie Sanders Abbott, 86, a homemaker, died Saturday, April 12, 1997, in Fort Worth.
Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Burial: Greenwood Memorial Park.
Majorie Sanders Abbott was born May 10, 1910, in Silverton, Texas. She was raised in Quitaque, Texas, and attended Howard Payne College in Brownwood. She was employed by West Texas Gas Co. in Quitaque and Plainview before her marriage to Vernon Abbott in 1937. They lived in the Fort Worth area for over 50 years. Mrs. Abbott owned Abbott of Fort Worth, a denim skirt business, for several years and also served as ranch manager with her husband for their son's family ranch in Clifton in later years.
She was a longtime member of Arlington Heights United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school classes and was past president of the Women's Friendship Class. Mrs. Abbott had also been active in the North Fort Worth Garden Club. She was actively involved in and supported her two children's activities while they were young. She served as volunteer room mother every year and as president of the PTA, of which she was a life member. She was a Cub Scout den mother and a Camp Fire circle leader and served as assistant director and counselor-in-training director for two summers at El Tesoro, the Camp Fire camp at Granbury.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Vernon Abbott.
Survivors: Son, Brooks Abbott and his wife, Gloria, of Irving; daughter, Ann Abbott Finch and her husband, Gary, of Dalhart; sisters, Frank Pilcher of Tucson, Ariz., Jimmie Tibbetts of Durango, Colo., and Marion Dizon of Brooklyn, N.Y.; grandchildren, Clay Abbott of Irving, Staci Finch of Austin, Elizabeth Finch of Abilene and Jennifer (Finch) and John Niemann of Brighton, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.
