Waxahachie Daily Light; Jan 27, 1937;
Mrs. Sophia Jane Faris, 81, wife of the late G. A. Faris, widely known minister in the Christian Church and one-time trustee of the Texas Christian University, died Monday at her home, 4323 San Jacinto, in Dallas.
Born in New Market, AL, Mrs. Faris came to Texas with her husband by way of Tennessee in 1881. They settled first at Cleburne but Mr. Faris’ ministerial work carried them to many North and Central Texas cities. They went to Dallas in 1900 from McKinney and Mrs. Faris has since lived there. Her husband, who was also editor of the Christian Courier, church paper, died in 1918.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. Elsworth Faris, Chicago, head of the sociology department, University of Chicago, and Cecil Faris, Tom Ball, Harris County; a daughter, Mrs. Blake Faris Card, Dallas; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will probably be held this afternoon and the body will be taken to Ennis where burial will take place in Myrtle Cemetery.
