Sally Jane Sagar Bumgarner was born in Union county, Ohio, October 7, 1840 and passed away at her home in Caney, Kansas, January 26, 1931; at the age of 90 years, 3 months, 19 days.

She was married to Martin Bumgarner in Iowa, Sept. 10, 1859. To this union were born fourteen children, five of whom preceded her in death.

She came with her husband to Kansas in 1866 and settled in Cherokee county. In 1870 they moved to Chautauqua county and homesteaded a farm near Wauneta, where they lived until 1902 when they moved to Cedar Vale. Then in 1906 moved to Caney.

She and her husband were converted in 1870 and became charter members of the first church organization in what was then Howard county, now Chautauqua and Elk counties. She gave a long life of service in the Methodist Episcopal church.

In the early day their home was used for Sunday school and preaching services, and was the scene of many great revival meetings.

Mrs. Bumgarner leaves to mourn her going: nine children, Mrs. Ora Pate, Wauneta, Kas.; Perry Bumgarner, Fayetteville, Ark.; Wallace Bumgarner, Janesville, Wis. Mrs. Ida Florer, Teriton, Okla.; Mrs. Delia Parker, Yoder, Wyo.; Walter Bumgarner, Ozark, Ark.; Mrs. Luella Ramsey, Hamilton, Mo.; Chester Bumgarner, Kansas City, Mo., and Lycurgus Bumgarner, Tulsa, Okla.; thirty grandchildren, forty-five great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday the 27th at 1:3O p.m., conducted by the pastor, Rev, J. B. Cooprider. Music was furnished by Mrs. L. F. Chess and Miss Mary McKee, with Mrs. Kenneth Fleming accompanist.

Her request for no flowers was compiled with and she was laid to rest in the Grant Creek cemetery beside her husband, who preceded her in death Apr. 3, 1929.
