James was born to Norman W. and Anita B. (Shinn) Coon on Monday, November 19, 1934 in Harper, Kansas.
In 1955, James and Yvonne Burchinal were united in marriage and to this union were born three children: David W., Donald A., and Belinda L. After their marriage ended, James married Jean (Platts) Coon in 1989. James retired in 1997 after a 43 year career in the commercial heat & air industry as a union sheet metal worker and foreman. James was a 61 year member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 29, until his death.
Survivors include his son, David W. (Laura) Coon of Clearwater, Kansas, son, Donald A. Coon of Clearwater, Kansas, daughter, Belinda L. Coon (Gary) Lieb of Boca Raton, Florida, sister Myrna Howard of St. George, Utah, grandchildren: Jonathan W. Coon of Martins Mill, Texas, Joel D. (Leanna) Coon of Hutchinson, Kansas and Nathan James (Ashley) Coon of Clearwater, Kansas and his great-grandson, Scott James Coon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and an infant brother, Raymond E. Coon.
A private interment will be held at a later date in the Upchurch Cemetery in Norwich, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his loving memory to the Wellington Humane Society. Contributions may be mailed or left with the funeral home.
