Janice Collier Ellis, 57, of Decatur, died January 28, 2015. There will be a memorial service Saturday, February 7, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Jackson Memory Funeral Home. Interment will follow in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens. Janice Collier Ellie was born Janice Marie Collier on 30 April 1957, to John L. Collier Jr. and Marjorie E. Jarmon Collier in Hillsboro. Janice accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, at a young age, at First Missionary Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Janice loved the Lord and was never too timid to speak about her beliefs. She remained faithful to the end of her life.

Janice attended Tennessee Valley School and Courtland High School, graduating from Courtland in 1975. She attended Alabama A&M University and graduated from Athens State University in August 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management of Technology. Janice met her future husband, LeRoy Ellis Jr., in 1974, while they were students at Courtland High School. They were married in 1976 and would remain close for 38 years. To this union was born two children, Kara Nichelle and Tamara LaReina. They would embark on many, many adventures. Janice and LeRoy were a military family, having spent 24 years in and around military bases. They lived in Alabama. The Federal Republic of Germany, Texas, Alaska, and Georgia. During her travels about the world and country, Janice was exposed to many people, ultures, beliefs and lifestyles. This exposure only reinforced her Christian upbringing. She was a positive influence wherever she was. During their last tour in Alaska from 1992 to 1997, the family joined and worked, where needed, in the Eagle River Missionary Baptist Church in Eagle River, Alaska, under Pastor William Greene.

During her working life, Janice usually worked in jobs where she was helping someone with some problem or issue. She always did it with a smile and the utmost professionalism, even when those smiles weren't returned. Janice loved flowers an plants, good food, a nice road trip, and great conversation. Although generally quiet and unassuming, she had an infectious laugh and a gentle spirit that would comfort a family member or friend. She enjoyed sitting on her back deck in a light warm breeze, with a nice snack and just relishing life. Her family was her life and her three grandchildren brought her an abundance of joyous moments. Despite her illness and struggles, she always remained a true Lady.

Janice was a loyal and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sisters, and friend who will be sorely missed. Her warm glowing smile and generous heart brought out the best in those whom she touched. She is preceded in death by her father, John L. and her brother, Eddie Collier.

Janice leaves to cherish her memory her spouse, Leroy Ellis Jr.; two daughters, Kara N. Ellis Lampasone (Don) of Columbia, MD, and Tamara L.
