William S. “Bill” Sanders, 86, died peacefully at his home in Lebanon, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, May 13, 2015. He was born Aug. 20, 1928, in Richmond, to the now late Allen Sanders Sr. and Virginia (Smith) Sanders.

Having been raised in Richmond, Bill graduated in 1947 from Richmond High School. On April 19, 1947, he was married to Patsy A. McElvain; she survives.

In his early years, Bill worked at the Richmond Fireproof Door Company. In 1961, he came to Lebanon to become an original partner with Jack Day and Don Stewart to start Triangle Asphalt Paving Corporation. Following his retirement in 1977, Bill enjoyed making turquoise jewelry and traveling around the country to festivals selling his creations. In 1979, he and Patsy moved to Dayton, Tenn., and started the Bluewater Campground on the Tennessee River. They moved back to Lebanon in 1989 to be close to their family.

His past and current memberships include the Elks Lodge, Boone Lodge # 9, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine and Boone County Shrine, and the Good Sam’s Club.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy A. Sanders; three children, Kathy (Harold) Kinsler, Gary (Norma) Sanders and Don (Barbara) Sanders; five grandchildren, Nikki (J.T.) Solomon, Shelli (Stephen) Greer, Brian (Ashley) Sanders, Doug (Jen) Sanders and Abby (Derek) Warren; nine great-grandchildren, Drew Solomon, Paige Solomon, Rylan Greer, Kaden Greer, Abby Sanders, Lilly Sanders, Juliette Sanders, Bodhi Sanders and Hadley Warren; two sisters, Doris Campbell and Patty Helton; two brothers, Arthur James “Jim” Sanders and John Sanders; and several nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Naomi Reid, Leotha Bowling and Eileen Rausch; two brothers, Charles Sanders and Allen Sanders Jr.; a great- granddaughter, Olivia Solomon; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Irene McElvain; and a brother-in-law, Bill McElvain.

Visitation is noon to 2 p.m. Monday, May 18, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the mortuary, with Vicar Christopher Beasley officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
