James Benjiman Maxwell

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Sept. 11 at the Wood Family Funeral Service Chapel for James Benjiman Maxwell, 68, who passed away in Bakersfield on Sept. 6.
Jim grew up in Bakersfield, attending local schools and graduating from Bakersfield High School. He married LaVaughn Mills on Oct. 23, 1953, in Las Vegas, Nev. They moved to Tehachapi in 1961 where Jim was employed at Cal-Portland Cement Company as a grinding foreman, retiring after 30 years. He then started his own locksmith company, Maxwell's Tehachapi Locksmith.
Jim loved all types of motorcycles, water sports and camping with his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was well known in the Tehachapi community and will be greatly missed by his family and all those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, LaVaughn Maxwell of Tehachapi; son, Kevin Maxwell and his wife Tonia of Bakersfield; grandsons, James Burrows, of Memphis, Tenn., Richard Burrows of Tehachapi, Shawn Maxwell of Nevada, and Brett Maxwell of Bakersfield; granddaughters, Kammie Burrows of Meridan, Miss. and Ashley Maxwell of Boulder City, Nev.; brothers, Warren Maxwell and his wife Bobbi and Dean Maxwell and his wife Janice, all of Bakersfield. He is predeceased by his two daughters, Cheryl Ruggles in 1981 and Janet Burrows in 1998.
Doctor Mark Vaughan officiated at the service. Interment followed at Tehachapi Public Cemetery, Eastside.
