Age 85? Wife of Elnathan Benson who she married prob in Albany County, NY 1780-90. Mother of Benjamin Hammond Benson, also buried here. Benson Family records of Fred H. Benson, a descendant, note that Ruth and Elnathan had 5 children born before 1800. The 1800 Census record for Elnathan in Bristol, Schoharie Co, NY notes 2 males under age 10, one male age 10-16, and one female under age 10. One child may have d.y. Family history also notes Elnathan "went west" soon after 1811, leaving wife Ruth behind in Niagara County, NY with their two youngest children, Benjamin and Stetson/Studson.
Elnathan served in the Revolutionary War, enlisting in 14th Regiment, Albany County, NY Militia. His brother Joel is also listed with the same company. It is known that Elnathan lived for awhile in Pompey and Fabius, NY in the same neighborhood as another brother Studson, from about 1800-1811. (Veterans of the Revolution were awarded land grants in the Pompey/Fabius area as payment for service).
