Martin M. Corrigan
Martin M. Corrigan, 68, of 110 Greene Street, former superintendent of streets, died last night in Memorial Hospital where he was admitted yesterday afternoon. Mr Corrigan who had been superintendent of streets for the City of Cumberland for over 10 years, last year retired because of illness. He had been in failing health about a year. Before being made superintendent of streets, Mr Corrigan had worked with the City of Cumberland in other capacities. In the early 1930s, he was one of the city's superintendents in charge of the WPA work here. For approximately 12 years prior to his employment with the city, Mr Corrigan was a partner with Thomas Kane in the Kane-Corrigan Contracting Company. The company contracted street jobs primarily. A native of Somerset County, Pa, he was a son of the late Michael J and Emma (Nahar) Corrigan. Mr Corrigan's grandfather was the late Matthew Corrigan, for whom Corriganville is named. He came to Cumberland when a child and had lived here most of his life. One of his first employers was the Baltimore & Ohio railroad. He received his education at St Patrick's High School. He was a member of Cumberland Council 596, Knights of Columbus; Cumberland Lodge 63, Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and Cumberland Lodge 271, Loyal Order of Moose. Surviving are a sister, Miss Anne S Corrigan, at home and an aunt, Miss Catherine J Corrigan, Corriganville. The body is at the residence where member of Cumberland Lodge 63 Elks will hold a service tomorrow at 8 p.m. The Holy Name Society of St Patrick's church will recite the rosary at the residence tomorrow at 8:15 p.m and the Moose will conduct ritualistic exercises there at 7 p.m. today. A requiem will be celebrated Friday at 9 a.m. at St Patrick's church with interment in the parish cemetery. The family requests no flowers.
