He has always loved to fish and hunt. Any spare time he has ever had has been spent this way. He is an Elder in the Church and is active in its activities and has held many offices in auxiliary organizations.
He is employed at the Deseret Livestock Ranch, and he has been employed there for 32 years. This is the kind of work he enjoys. He also owns a few cattle of his own and a small acreage of land formerly owned by his father. He was elected mayor of Woodruff in 1966 and re-elected in 1970 unanimously.
He married Vilate Buck in 1934 and that marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They are the parents of two children: a son, Jay B. Longhurst, and a daughter Lana Jo Longhurst.
