McCOY, Virginia Halstead Smiley, 93, of Lexington, died Sunday, July 30, 2000 at Stonewall Jackson Hospital Extended Care Facility. She was born September 15, 1906 in Portsmouth, Va., the daughter of the late George W. and Elizabeth Maddox Halstead. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Lexington and was a retired secretary at Washington and Lee University with 20 years service. She also worked as a tour guide at Lee Chapel. Mrs. McCoy was preceded in death by her husband. William Raymond McCoy; a daughter, Anne H. Zeigler; two brothers, George W. Halstead and Norman Halstead. Surviving are a brother, Leon A. Halstead of Woodside, N.Y.; a nephew, Thomas Halstead of Douglaston, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Zeigler Nuckols, Charlottesville; and one great-granddaughter, Jamie Lynn Worth; and great-great-granddaughter, Kaitlin Marie Worth, both of Lexington; and her special friend and caretaker, Mary Higgins. Graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2000 at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery with Dr. William M. Klein officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at which time the funeral procession will leave the funeral home. Arrangements by Williams-Wilson Funeral Service, Lexington.
