BREVARD, North Carolina - Tunis C. Selby, Jr., 85, husband of Patricia Jones Selby, passed from this life Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at his home in Brevard. Tunis was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, a son of the late Tunis C. and Mary Hood Selby. He was a graduate of Bowling Green University and attended Ohio State University School of Law. He received a Masters degree in Human Services from Nova University, West Palm Beach, Florida. Tunis was retired as Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS), where he spent many years helping people recover from chemical dependency. Tunis was formerly a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Warren, Ohio and attended St. Philip's Episcopal in Brevard. He also served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard. Tunis retired in 1978 as owner and operator of Crown Hill Burial Park and Monument Company in Vienna, Ohio. He was an animal lover, especially his two pet dogs, Beau and Ginny. Tunis was instrumental in forming the Mountain View Group of Alcoholics Anonymous in Brevard, North Carolina. Survivors include his wife, Patricia of the home; two sons, Tunis C. Selby, III (Georgeanne) of Florence, South Carolina, Edward C. Selby (Ginger) of Pickens, South Carolina; as well as two daughters, Susan Dunn (Bruce) of Bucyrus, Ohio, Mary Jane Williams (Col. George) of Springfield, Virginia, and a step-son, John Ehrler of Brevard, North Carolina. Grandchildren include George Selby, Carrie Burr, Philip Williams, Clayton Williams, Megan Willcoxon, Missy Willcoxon, Molly Armbruster; and four great grandchildren; step-grandchildren include, Daniel Fahey, Kathleen Fahey, and Dawn Ehrler. Also surviving are his sister-in-law and her husband, Donna Resua (Dr. Richard) of Northport, New York. In addition to his parents, Tunis was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia "Ginny" Heyman and his brother, William Selby. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 2 PM at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 256 East Main Street, Brevard, North Carolina, 28712.
