Mrs. Bessie Sams, 70, of Rt. 5, Box 39, Huntsville, Ark., died April 11, 1990, at Huntsville Memorial Hospital. She was born Oct. 5, 1919, at St. Paul, Ark., the daughter of James Walter and Mary Elizabeth Mattingly Burnett. She was a retired orchard worker, a Primitive Baptist, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Hayes-Smith Post #137 at Huntsville.
Survivors include her husband, Earl L. Sams of the home; one son, Coy LaVern Sams of Gainesville, Va.; one daughter, Mrs. Mildred Ruymann of Shelton, Wash.; one brother, Floyd Burnett of Picher, Okla.; one sister, Mrs. Delphia Womack of Eureka Springs, Ark.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. One daughter, Miss Wanda Fern Sams, preceded her in death in 1942.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 13, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with the Rev. Calvin Kennedy officiating. Interment was in the Ledbetter Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Hoy Haught, John Hendrix, Paul Arment, Chester Harwood, Melvin Fisher and James Travis.
