Mr. Goodell was born March 9, 1911 in Painesdale, a son of Charlotte and H. Stuart Goodell. He attended grade school both locally and in Bradenton, Fla. He graduated from high school in 1929 from the Phillip Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H. and also attended the University of Michigan. He lived in Northbrook, Ill. before returning to the Copper Country in 1941, settling in Houghton. In 1947 he moved to Hancock and since 1965 he had made his home in Eagle Harbor. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Seabees as a chief petty officer in the Navy. He owned a operated the Goodell Oil Co. from 1941 until his retirement. Mr. Goodell was a member of the Miscowaubik Club, the Great Lakes Cruising Club, a former member of the Hancock Elks Club, a volunteer for Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly and was a member of Portage Post 1292 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Houghton. Robert had three children, Stuart Joseph Goodell, Karen Ann Goodell and Julia Katherine Goodell.
