Obituary

Willie "Bill" Lang of Houston,Texas passed from this world to his eternal home on May 8, 2015 at the age of 88.
He was best known for his giving heart and will be missed by all who knew him. He was born on January 16,1927 in Van, Texas to Trenton Lang and Effie Maxfield Lang. He was the oldest of seven brothers and one sister.

He was raised in Van and attended school there until graduation from Van High school in 1945. Following graduation, he was drafted into the Army where he served his country until 1946. He was stationed in Manilla, Philippines as a medical technician and received the Asiatic Pacific campaign medal, WWII victory medal, and the Philippine independence ribbon. Following his discharge, he moved to Houston, Texas where he became employed with the Southern Pacific Railroad and purchased his present home. He continued working for the Railroad as a signal engineer for 37 years until he retired.

He began attending Southern Bible College (SBC) in Houston and became a licensed minister with the Pentecostal Church of God (PCG). While at SBC, he met and married Ruth Pickering on May 29, 1959. One year later their only child was born, a daughter. As a minister, he pastored Lighthouse Church, served on the Board of Directors at the college, was assistant presbyter and later became presbyter of the North Houston Section, East Texas District. He also served as a Sunday School superintendent, Sunday school teacher, church board member and financial counselor. His passion was to help build up small churches and to do both financial planning and counseling for churches and individuals.

After his retirement, he spent most of his time with his granddaughters and traveling. He visited almost every state in the U.S. and also traveled abroad to Israel, Egypt, Turkey, Russia, and the Netherlands.
