Mr. Harkness was born in Vermilion County, Ind., son of Morton R and Viola Harkness. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and Torah Shrine, both in Terre Haute, Ind., New Goshen, Ind. Masonic Lodge, and a past patron of New Goshen Order of Eastern Star. He married Gertrude Easter in 1926. She survives.
