Lt. Hugh M. Baker Killed in Crash While on Leave
Lieut Hugh Massy Baker, Royal Canadian Engineers, son of Massy Baker, of 484 Springfield Road, Rockcliffe Park, has been accidentally killed in a motor car crash while on leave in Ireland according to a cable received by his father Saturday. Full particulars of the accident have root yet been received. Lieut Baker was spending his leave with his uncle, Allen Baker, at "Lisma- cue", Bansha county, Tipperary. Lieut Baker was an honors graduate of the Royal Military College, Kingston, and received his commission in the Royal Canadian Engineers at the time of his graduation in December, 1939. He was born in Ottawa, October 22, 1920, the son of Massy Baker and his wife, Mildred Schreiber Lambe. He headed his classes at Rockcliffe Park public school. He then attended Lisgar Collegiate Institute and Ashbury College. At both schools he won General Proficiency medals. Lieut Baker enjoyed tennis and ski-ing and was especially skilled at golf. H e twice won the junior championship at the Larrimac golf course. He spent a year on active training at Petawawa before going overseas. He bad been stationed in England since his arrival and for a time saw service with the Chief Engineer at Corps head-Quarters. At the time of his death he was with the 1st Field Park Company. R. C. J. C. In addition to his father, one brother, Conyers Collingwood Massy Baker, survives.
