William Lester Lockhart "Boomer", 64, of Trenton, GA, died Thursday morning March 26, 2015 at home.
Born in Memphis, TN, grew up in College Park, GA. After high school he enlisted in the US Army serving in Vietnam. Bill was a "proud papa of the best kids a man could have." Active with the Boy Scouts of America and a softball coach in Griffin and a Civil War Historian who spent countless hours cleaning, restoring and tracking surviving relatives of buried soldiers in historical cemeteries. In 2003 he relocated his family from Milner to Trenton and threw himself into the community. An old school biker with a big heart for Veterans Affairs who loved his country. Bill was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and one of the original Mechanized Cavalry members, number 34 of what has now grown to almost 2,300 strong. Former Commander of American Legion Post 106 and honored as the 2011 Dade County Chamber of Commerce's Citizen of the Year Award following his volunteer efforts during recovery after the tornadoes in April.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac Lester & Dorothy Pearl Lockhart; and brother, Alden Lockhart.
Surviving relatives are his daughters, Elizabeth Ann Lockhart of Trenton, Stephanie Dawn Lockhart of Trenton currently serving in Kuwait and Angela Tyson Stevenson of Lakeland, FL; brother, Danny Lockhart of Conyers, GA; sister, Gloria Darlene Lockhart; nephews, Adam & Ryan Lockhart; niece, Heather Bodiford; and several great-nieces and nephews.
The celebration of Bill's life will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 4 at the American Legion Post 106 in Trenton, GA....
