Norman Dale "Gabby" Hayes Sr., 80, of Springfield, died Tuesday May 12, 2015 in Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. He was born December 11, 1934 in Delaware County, Ohio, the son of Harvey Lee and Mattie Belle (Flowers) Hayes.
He served in the United States Navy from 1954-1957. Norman attended the Fowler Road Church of Christ in Christian Union. He retired from Cooper Industries.
Survivors include his wife, Emily (Owen) Hayes; three daughters; Sharon Teresa (Neal) Zimmerman of New Carlisle; Belinda Sue (Ricky) Goheen of Springfield; Susan Diane (James) Salley of Beavercreek; son, Norman Dale (Roberta) Hayes Jr. of Springfield; eleven grandchildren, Andrew (Nicole) Hayes, Megan (Jeremy) Steele, Matthew (Crystal) Hayes, Joshua (Heather) Zimmerman, April (Kyle) McIntosh, Amber (Joe) Schenk, Jason (Julie) Zimmerman, Jeremy (Erica) Goheen, Sarah (Josh) Haney, Christopher Salley and Cameron Salley; twenty –five great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Katherine Hill of Springfield and brother, Ross Hickson of Grove City. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty Lou Chamberlain and Carrie Lee Taylor.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2 – 4 p.m. Sunday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday with Pastor Tim Dotson officiating.
Burial will be in Terre Haute Cemetery.
