Mr. Orr was a graduate of Cloudland High School, where he was a member of the first football team. He honorably served his country in the US Navy during World War II aboard LCT carriers in the Pacific Theatre. Mr. Orr retired after thirty years as a Yard Superintendent, Lumber Inspector, and Buyer for Thomasville Furniture, formerly Gordon's Furniture Company, of Johnson City. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and the Duard Aldridge Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Belle Buck Orr, Johnson City; two sons & daughters-in-law, William David & Diane Underwood Orr, Alpharetta, GA, and Philip Kent & Jennifer Torbett Orr, Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, William Andrew Orr & Ashley Lauren Orr, Alpharetta, GA, and Jennifer Blair Orr, Morehead, KY; three sisters, Ruth Honeycutt and Jessie Street, both of Roan Mountain, and Francis Tatum, Elk Park, NC; and a brother, John Orr, Roan Mountain.
A Celebration of Life Service for William B. Orr will be held at 8 PM, Tuesday, April 19 in Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Carol Wilson and Rev. Paul Seay officiating. The family will begin receiving friends at 6 PM, Tuesday, in the church sanctuary. Pallbearers will be John Orr, William David Orr, Philip Kent Orr, William Andrew Orr, Charles Hartman, Warren Ledford, Mike Powell, and Scott Jordan. Honorary pallbearers will be O. G. Garland, Bill Buck, Fred Wallenfelsz, Jack Wilson, Lloyd Wiseman, Ed Buck, John R. Shanks, Fred Honeycutt, Kale Street, Warren Heaton, Ed Matherly, Dean Torbett, Hugh Underwood, Nora Thompson, Ruby Parker, Chester Durham, his nieces & nephews, and member of the Duard Aldridge Sunday School Class. The graveside and committal service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, in Hampton-Orr Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:20 AM on Wednesday.
