Dr. J.E. Blinn, 87, of Marshfield, Missouri, attended Kansas City schools and graduated from the Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery (now the University of Health Sciences) with a D.O. degree in May, 1941. Following college and graduation, he received his license to practice medicine within the state of Missouri.

In June, 1941, he began an internship at the Ozark Osteopathic Hospital in Springfield. He would remain there for one year before he would move to general practice in Fordland where he stayed from 1942 to 1944.

As World War II broke out, Dr. Blinn was sent to basic training at Camp Wallis, Texas, before becoming a stateside sailor for the United States Navy, stationed at San Diego Bay. He remained there until he was discharged in February, 1946.

Rather than returning to practice in Fordland, he opened his general practice in Marshfield which he kept from 1946 until 1988. Dr. Blinn became an active member of the Marshfield community. He served with the Webster County Red Cross, American Legion Post #142, Marshfield Library Board, Marshfield Development Corporation, the Marshfield Lions Club (serving as President three terms), Board of Adjustment, Marshfield Chamber of Commerce, Marshfield Betterment Program, Chairman of the Bicentennial Committee of Marshfield and Webster County, Salvation Army, and the Webster County Historical Society.

He served as Mayor of Marshfield for three terms, from 1956 until 1962. In 1994, Dr. Blinn received Marshfield's highest honor, "Marshfieldian of the Year." In 1986 he was appointed Webster County Coroner and served until 2004. One of his proudest achievements was becoming a Mason in 1944. That affiliation led him to belong to the Grand Lodge AF & AM of Missouri, York Rite Bodies, Springfield, the Scottish Rite, Joplin, Abou Ben Adhem Shrine, Springfield, Webster Lodge #98, Marshfield, Sovereign York Rite College, Buckner, and the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, Jefferson City.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Joseph E. Blinn, Sr., and Mary Josephine (Ritchey) Blinn; and his first wife, DeEtta. Survivors include his wife, Lucy (Beckner) Blinn; two daughters and their husbands, Mary and Howard Higa, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Wilma and Issam Amary, Marshall; six grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; and a cousin, Marylou Miller, Kansas City.

Funeral services for Dr. Blinn were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2006, in the Fraker Funeral Home, Marshfield, with Revs. Alex Ruth, David Williams and Nicholas Inman officiating.

Masonic services were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with visitation to follow until 8 p.m. At Dr. Blinn's request, memorial contributions may be made to the Hidden Waters Nature Park, c/o Fraker Funeral Home, P.O. Box 85, Marshfield, MO 65706.
