Mr. Hurd had seven children: Brenda Sue (Ron) Cramer, Linda Jean (Donnie) Sams-Charlton, Pamlan Rose (Jim) Auler, Martha Mae Hurd (deceased), Tim Harrison, David (Lori) Harrison, and John Lee Hurd. He was also blessed with Steven (Annie) Howard, Melissa Howard (deceased), Michael Howard (deceased), Thomas Howard, and Theresa Howard. He also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren: Tyila (Marcelto) Cooks, Dawn Murray, Shane (Jenny) Murray, Emily (Dana) Brown, Jaime (Robert) Ashbrook, Leslee (Jeff) Weitenberner, Christina Harrison, TJ Harrison, Racin Cramer, Randy McAtee, Netra Howell, Donnie Howard, CJ (April) Howard, Heather Howard, Zack Pavey, Robert Pavey; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Hurd, six brothers and sisters, and he also leaves behind several loved nieces and nephews.
John was a member of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War conflict, where he earned several medals. Born in Brodhead, Kentucky, he grew up in Marion, Indiana. He was the next to the youngest son of Lula and John Hurd, Sr. (deceased).
In his early years, John was successful in business. He worked for Klein Steel for many years and retired from Grant County Steel several years ago. In his later years, John focused much of his time honoring Veterans through his service in the Color Guard and Honor Guard for the Amvets Post #5. John was very passionate about honoring the lives of others, and we celebrate him for that.
Many remember John for his hard work ethic, sense of humor, gentle manner, and kindness. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching old western movies. He lived his life to the fullest.
