Son of David Wade Wakefield and Susanna Jane Wilson. Married first to Martha Louther who died in 1859. After serving in the Civil War, he married Mary Dodson, widow of John Hice who died in Terre Haute, Indiana in 1861.

Obituary:
Henry Clinton Wakefield, whose serious illness this paper mentioned yesterday, died at his home in Nineveh, Westmoreland County, at 8 o'clock this morning of rheumatishm and kidney trouble. He was a son of David W. Wakefield, who died at Nineveh in 1883. His mother - Jane Wakefield - died at the same place in 1868. The late venerable Samuel Wakefield, D.D.L.L.D., was an uncle of the subject of this sketch, who was born sixty-nine years ago in Brushvalley Township, Indiana County. Mr. Wakefield was married at Terra Haute, Ind., to Mrs. John Hice, who together with one daughter, Martha, wife of Bert Wagner - of Nineveh, survives him. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Thomas M. and David S., of Nineveh; Alexander E., of New Florence, who is employed by the Johnson Company in this city, and Mrs. Mary Taylor, who also resides at Nineveh. When the war broke out he enlisted in the Eleventh Indiana Reserves and served for three months. At the expiration of this time he enlisted in the Indiana Regiment of which Lew Wallace, the famous author, was Colonel at that time, and on February 24, 1864, he was mustered into service as a private in Company D., Sixty-fourth Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers. His Captain was George Covode, of Westmoreland County. He was a member of Captain D.P. Smith Post 221, Grand Army of the Republic, New Florence. The funeral will take place at 12:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, interment to be made at Nineveh. Dr. A.N. Wakefield, a cousin of the deceased, and family, of the South Side, will attend the obsequies, which will be conducted by Rev. A.L. Kendell.
