PAOLI Russell Carwile, 87, Paoli, died at 9:43 p.m. Tuesday at Paoli Convalescent Center.

Born in Grayson County, Kentucky, he was the son of Trusillion Edwin and Edna (Safer) Carwile. He married Grady Gusta Goodall Aug. 9, 1936, and she survives.

He was a retired farmer, a former motel owner and operator in South Fulton, Tenn., and a retired maintenance man at Paoli Junior-Senior High School.

Surviving with the wife are one son, John Russell Carwile of Trenton, Tenn.; four daughters: Jane Barnett and Grady Owen, both of Paoli, Velma Travis of Trenton, Tenn., and Wanda J. Kennedy of Salem; two sisters: Hathaway Wilson of Springfield, Ill., and

Eva Carwile of California; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kemple Funeral Home in Paoli, with Brothers Roscoe Combs and James Babcock officiating. Burial will be in Mount Lebanon Cemetery at French Lick.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday.
