John Melvin Cornia was born July 21,1867, in Kamas, Utah, the son of Peter Cornia and Ruth Clarissa Carter Cornia. He married Mary Hannah Dean, daughter of Charles and Mary Cope Dean, November 2, 1887 in the Logan Temple. They had nine children, all born in Woodruff. He homesteaded up the creek and lived there a good share of the time.

He set up a lot of the time with sick people and did a lot of donation work for the people in town. He, with his brother, Pete, Ed, and Orson would take their wagons in the fall and go over Monty to get fruit from Ogden. It would take them three or four days to make the trip. He quarried out sand stone rock from Red Rock in Main Canyon to build the sand stone water table around the church.

John died March 26, 1928, at Uintah, Weber, Utah by accidental drowning in the Weber River.
