During the war she worked three years at the Whitehouse State Savings Bank. Following that, she worked at the Liberty State Savings Bank for 30 years. She was a member of the Liberty Center United Methodist Church, the Union Rebekah Lodge #273, the American Legion Auxiliary, the VFW Wive's Club, Past Noble Grands Club, the Methodist Women's Society, and a lifetime member of the Liberty Center Friends of the Library. She and husband, Aub, were avid fans of the Liberty Center Tigers football and basketball teams.
Growing up, Kate loved playing outdoors, ice skating, riding her bike, and doing gymnastics. Later in life she took part in tap and clog-dancing groups during winters spent in Texas with Aub. She married Elmer Carpenter in August 2000.
Kate was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harry, Donald, Robert, and John Bureau; sisters, Virginia Warner, Bonnie Zeigler, and Mary Jo Lindau; husbands, and two infant daughters. Surviving are daughter, Nancy Jennings-Spahn; granddaughter, Jennifer (Csaba); great-grandchildren, Isabella, Aubrey, and Sebastien, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, May 14 from 4-8 p.m. at the Wright-Habegger Funeral Home, 302 E. Maple St., Liberty Center, OH.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 15 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Young Cemetery, Liberty Center, OH. A luncheon will be served at the Liberty Center United Methodist Church following the services.
The family wishes to express their thanks to the caring staff at the Goerlich Center and to dear friends, Joan Drzewiecki and Gregory and Sonya Bracho for their love and support.
