He was born September 14, 1932, in Allons, Tennessee to the late Malcom Wayne and Seraphine Melton Nelson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Imojean Hunter Nelson on April 12, 2015. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Randal Jr.
He was a graduate of Livingston Academy and Tennessee Tech and taught school for a while in Clay County, TN. Randy and Jean moved to Columbia in 1980 for him to be the plant manager for Osh Kosh B’Gosh until his retirement. He loved his farm and participating in tractor and car shows. He was a former member of the Columbia-Adair County Rotary Club and served as Chamber of Commerce President in Columbia.
Survivors include:
One son – Wayne Nelson of Dublin, VA
One granddaughter – Ashley Nelson of Dublin, VA
One brother – Melvin (Genella) Nelson of Nashville, TN
One sister – Joyce (Randolph) Harris of Indianapolis, IN
His former daughter-in-law – Kim Nelson of Staunton, VA
Several nieces, nephews and a host of friends in both Kentucky and Tennessee
Funeral service – Friday, May 15, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at Fellowship Baptist Church in Allons, TN with Bro. Stanley Watson officiating
Burial in Fellowship Cemetery in Overton County, TN.
Visitation after 5:00 P.M., Thursday at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home and after 11:00 A.M., Friday at the church. There will be no visitation on Friday at the funeral home.
