Civil War Union Army Officer. He served during the Civil War first as Colonel and commander of the 1st Connecticut Volunteer Infantry, then as Colonel and commander of the 22nd Connecticut Volunteer Infantry. He later in the war served as a Captain and Assistant Quartermaster, US Volunteers.
