Verna I. Moen, age 94 of Mt. Horeb, WI died on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, WI surrounded by her family. She was born June 16, 1922 in Iowa County, WI to Blaine and Alpha (Retrum) Steensland. Verna was united in marriage to Amos M. Moen on February 3, 1940 at the Steensland Homestead. They celebrated 75 years of marriage. Amos died on May 2015. She and Amos loved to dance. She loved bowling, bingo and playing cards. She worked at Alm's Café, Bit of Norway, Goebel's, Schubert's, Blue Sky, and C's Café as a waitress. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage. She was a member of Perry Lutheran Church and of its Women of ELCA.
Survivors include her children: Glen (Diane) Moen of Madison, Marie Meyer of Mt. Horeb, Dennis (Jan) Moen of Tucson, AZ, Marcia (Bob) Pilling of Mineral Point, Kevin (Theresa) Moen of Mineral Point, Carolyn Clerkin of Barneveld; 20 grandchildren: 28 great grandchildren: 4 great great grandchildren: a son-in-law: Jim McKeon of Blanchardville; daughter-in-law: Barb Moen of Monticello, her sister-in-law: Sylvia Moen of New Glarus, other relatives, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by parents, husband: Amos, her sons and daughter: Donald, Rolfe and August Moen and Norma McKeon; two grandsons: Brian McKeon and Jacob Moen; and a great-grandson, Mason Wedig, and seven brothers and sisters and son-in-law: Russell Horne.
Burial will be at the church cemetery.
