Josephine Nester (Mike) Holmes, 68, of Gibsonia, formerly of Freeport, died Tuesday, May 12, 2015, in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh. She was born Feb. 15, 1947, in New Kensington, to the late Anthony B. and Nicolina Pillitteri Mike. She was a graduate of Clarion State Teachers College, where she received her Bachelor's of Education and became a secondary education teacher, teaching English for the New Kensington-Arnold School District and also a substitute teacher for the Freeport School District for several years. Josephine was a member of St. Mary Mother of God Parish in Freeport and enjoyed time with family and friends and cooking. Survivors include her daughters, Erin (Thomas) Benton, of Oxford, Miss., and Kristin (Richard) Bradford, of Hersey; siblings, Robert A. (Paulette) Mike, of Lower Burrell, Annette (Dana) Clark, of Apollo, and Stephen R. (Patricia) Mike, of Lower Burrell; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald L. Holmes Jr., this past February. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the RUSIEWICZ OF LOWER BURRELL FUNERAL HOME, 3124 Leechburg Road at Alder St., Lower Burrell, where prayers of transfer will be said at 10 a.m. Friday, followed by Christian funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church, Lower Burrell.
