He was born in Willard, OH son of the late Thomas & Adeline (Swartz) Brooks.
Gene was a retired Yardmaster from Conrail Railroad and was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a member of the Greenmont Community Church; was a life member of VFW Post# 9927, and formerly attended American Legion Post# 598.
Gene was preceded in death by his first wife of 37 years, Janis Brooks, 2 brothers Bill and Carlton Brooks, one sister Guyneth Shedd, grandson Michael, and granddaughter Michelle.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years Angeline Brooks; one son Walter Brooks of Stoutsville, OH; one daughter Diane Brooks of Dayton; one brother Frederick (Jackie) Brooks of Vandalia; 2 grandchildren Matt and Monica; 4 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Alvina Brooks; step-children Pat (Jim), Steve (Claudia), Kathy, Kenny (Julie); 6 step-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday July 2 at 3:00pm at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home 139 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:30pm until time of service. If so desired, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton in Gene's memory.
