Helen Marr Atkinson Cornia was born September 17, 1895, in Woods Cross, Utah, a daughter of Charles Hazen Atkinson and Helen Marr Ellis. She moved with her family to what is now known as the Deseret Livestock ranch, where they lived until her father was called to go on a mission for the LDS Church in October 1900 to Billings, Montana. He contacted pneumonia and died February 1, 1901, while serving on his mission. In 1905, her mother married George A. Neville and moved to Woodruff, Utah when Helen was nine years old. She attended grad school in Woodruff and graduated from the eighth grade.
In her younger years, she worked in the organizations in the ward. She was married to Carter Cornia in the Salt Lake Temple on March 4, 1914. Throughout her life, she held many positions in church and civis affairs, as Relief Society President, also teaching in many of the organizations. She was town clerk for 30 years and worked on the Welfare Board for many years. They are the parents of Glen Atkinson Cornia, Marr Cornia, Chloe Cornia, Hazen Carter Cornia, Orson Cornia and twins Lewis Atkinson Cornia and Lucille Cornia.
