Mrs Matilda Goodman, a former resident of Decatur, died in her home in Milwaukee, Wis., last Sunday, after an illness of five days with pneumonia. She was living with her daughter, Mrs. Z. Ella Ball, formerly of Decatur, and her granddaughter, Mrs. C.H. Peterson, for the last two years. The body was taken to Charleston for burial and the services were held there in the home of a niece.
Mrs. Goodman was 85 years of age on Dec. 29, 1918. She had been an invalid for the last 8 years, having broken her hip while living in Decatur. She had been practically shut in the house since that time, getting out to visit the neighbors rarely, with the aid of crutches. She had a very sweet disposition in spite of the fact that she was disabled.
She was born in Charleston, Ill. and lived there until the time of her husband's death in 1904. She then came to Decatur and lived with her only daughter, Mrs. Ella Ball, 1504 North Water street until two years ago when they both moved to Milwaukee.
Mrs. Goodman leaves a sister in Los Angeles, Cal., Mrs. Frances Boles, another sister, Mrs. Bartholomew of Decatur and one only daughter, Mrs. Ella Ball, who is visiting in Decatur until Saturday, when she will return to her home in Milwaukee.
