Pamela J. Newman

Mrs. Pamela J. Newman of Geneva, Alabama passed away Monday, May 11, 2015. She was 70.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2015, in the Maple Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Shirah officiating and her brother-in-law Whiz Davis delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continue until service time.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions can be made to Maple Avenue Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.

Pam was born October 23, 1944, in Albuquerque, New Mexico to the late Kenneth G. and Marguerite Laster Smith. She enjoyed fishing, shopping and Alabama “Roll Tide” football. Pam loved her Maple Avenue Church family where she had been a member for several years. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, her husband, Forrest D. Newman, preceded her in death on May 11, 2002.

Survivors include three children: Walter “Corky” Newman (Nancy) of Geneva, Kenneth A. Newman of Troy, IL and Rebecca E. Twyford (Tim) of Highland, IL; five grandchildren: Kendra, Casey and Brandon Newman, Hayden and Hailey Twyford; three great-grandchildren; three sisters: Rita Kaye Goetz of Amarillo, TX, Cindi Davis (Whiz) and Kim Shute (Christian) all of Lubbock, TX; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brandon Newman, Casey Newman, Butch Hobbs, Don Earl Herndon, Whiz Davis and John McDougald. Hayden Twyford will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Sheriff Tony Helms, Greg Ward, Kathy Sasser, Gentiva Hospice, Attorney Jeff Hatcher, Dr. John Simmons, Wiregrass Medical Center and the nursing staff at Wiregrass Nursing Home.
