Denise was her middle and preferred name, although "Niecey Wiecey" and "Sunshine" were also used to describe this pistol of a woman. A 1970 graduate of Shelby County High School, she was a cheerleader, VP of her class and Miss Shelby County. Over the course of her life, Denise was a curious bug. She worked as a florist, a flagger on road construction crews and was a much liked supervisor of the Anderson County High School cafeteria bragging,“they ate my prune cake, even!” For many years, she was one of the top hairdo/updo stylists in Anderson County when she owned her hair salon, Cheveux. Denise was especially known for her prowess and athleticism on the softball field and played on champion softball teams throughout her 20’s and 30’s. She became a Registered Nurse, graduating from Kentucky State University in 1995 and worked at Central State Hospital on the Grauman Unit before working several years at Bradford Square Nursing Home in Frankfort. The things most people will remember Denise by were her raucous and infectious laugh, the loudest whistle "Charge" this side of Columbus and a penchant for telling spine-tingling ghost stories. She will be sorely missed by her family.
Denise is survived by two children, Christopher Allen Morgan of North Richland Hills, Texas and Robbie Nichole Morgan of Lexington, Kentucky; sister, Deborah King Raque of New Albany, Indiana, brother, Richard Keith Sutherland of Frankfort, Kentucky. She is also survived by half-brother, Edward West of Clarksville, Tennessee and half-sister, Pat West Anderson of West Branch, Michigan.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her half-brothers, Stanley West and Jimmy Sutherland and half-sister, Ann West Rogers.
