Remona Berger, 77, a resident and longtime business owner in the Wenatchee Valley for 53 years, passed away on October 6, 2011. She was born on December 27, 1933, at Sandtown, AR to the late Charlie and Melissa Ethel (Baxter) Roach. She grew up in Sandtown and attended school at nearby Cave City, AR and graduated from Cave City High School. She moved to the Wenatchee Valley in 1958, where she resided in Cashmere and worked in area orchards and waitressed in local restaurants. She met Tony Berger at the Wenatchee Grill in 1960, and they were later married on February 2, 1961, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wenatchee. They made their first home briefly in Wenatchee, before moving to East Wenatchee. They purchased Tony’s S&S Drive In Market in April 1968. In the late 1970’s, it became known as Tony’s Market. Remona worked the market with her husband and continued on after Tony’s passing in 1999. She was a member and founding family of the Holy Apostles Catholic Church in East Wenatchee. She was very involved with her church, including the Altar Society, St. Ann’s Guild and the Religious Education Program. She was a longtime member of the Monday Night Football Widows Bowling League. Playing games and cards with her family and friends was a favorite pastime, as well as entertaining and having parties at her home for them. Whether it was traveling or yard work, being out in the sun was a favorite pastime. Remona enjoyed her time with her grandchildren and the fun they brought to her.
