Springfield- Wayne N. Firth, 72, a lifelong resident of Springfield, passed away at his home, Wed. May 6, 2015.

Wayne was born April 16, 1943 in Springfield, the son of William E. and Adelia B. (Hoffmeister) Firth Sr. His parents and a niece, Desiree Firth preceded him in death.

He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp from 1961-1967. He achieved the rand of Lance Corporal. He earned a Rifle Expert Badge, Sharpshooter Badge,and a Good Conduct Medal. Wayne continued his dedication to his country and fellow comrades through his membership of the VFW Post 755, a member, past Senior Vice President, past Sergeant of Arms and past Quarter Master, of the Marine Corp League #75, and served as Vice Commander of the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County. Wayne also served as President of the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Advisory Council. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed bowling on various league for several years.

Wayne retired Oct. 31, 2001 from the State of Illinois Department of Revenue. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, LCMS.

He is survived by his two brothers: William :Bill" Firth of Springfield and Gerald (Janice) Firth of Merlin, OR, his sister, Priscilla (Tom) Stratton of Albany, OR, two nephews: Kevin (Michele) Firth and Jason Firth, three nieces: Kelly (Todd) Hatfield, Shannon (Peter) Corrigan and Kim (Reuben) Estrada, and several great nieces and nephews.

Visitation: The Firth family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Wed. May 13, 2015 at Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd. Springfield.
Funeral Service: A funeral service will be held at 1030 am Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Thomas G. Radtke officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler national cemetery with full military honors provided by the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County.

In Lieu of flowers, those who wish may direct memorial contributions to the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County or Trinity Lutheran Church and School.
