"WARRENSBURG -- A two-car collision Saturday near Warrensburg claimed the lives of two area persons and critically injured a third.

Lester N. Adams, 50, of Maroa, and Mary E. Seaman, 41, of Hartsburg, were fatally injured in the two-car smashup on the rain-slickened Warrensburg-Kenney blacktop.

James Schultz, 40, of Hartsburg, driver of the car carrying the Seaman woman, was hospitalized at Decatur-Macon County Hospital, Decatur. He was reported in critical condition Sunday night.

Macon county sheriff said the Maroa man, riding alone, apparently attempted to pass the Schultz car. Both were traveling north. The passing auto apparently tried to pull back into his lane too quickly. The impact sent the Schultz vehicle into a gulley by the Illinois Central Railroad tracks.

Authorities said rain and mud hampered immediate investigation into the accident. Adams' body was removed from the wreckage and Schultz was rushed to the Decatur hospital. The Seaman woman, pinned under the Schultz car, was not discovered immediately.

Funeral services for Mrs. Seaman will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Baptist Church in Marceline, Mo., with the Rev. Kenneth Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Brookfield, Mo." The Pantagraph (Bloomington, Illinois), September 28, 1964
