Jack Truax Roe died Monday May 4, 2015 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, Del. Mr. Roe was born Feb. 12, 1927 in Dover to the late John Minner Roe and Florence Truax Roe. He attended Dover high school and in 1945 Entered the U.S. Coast Guard serving 2 ½ years in the North Atlantic. After his honorable discharge he joined the Dover Police Dept. finishing with a rank of Sgt. In 1959 he became the City of Dover's first paid fire marshal and later served as City Planner, Building Inspector, Health Inspector, and Director of Civil Defense. He was a member and one time Chief of Robbins Hose Company in Dover for 74 years, and past President of the Eastern Division of the International Fire Chiefs Assoc. Mr. Roe was the oldest living member and their 1st mascot for Robbins Hose Company as well as the oldest living member of the International Fire Assoc. He was the Kent County Regional Chairman Planning Commission and an 18 year member of the Kent General Hospital Board of Directors. He retired from the City of Dover in 1989 after 40 years of service. Mr. Roe is survived by his Wife of 63 Years, Anne Lane Roe. Services will be private and interment will be in the Chesterfield Cemetery in Centreville, Maryland.
